Benriach The Twelve showcases the rich, approachable side of Speyside single malt Scotch whisky. Matured for at least twelve years in sherry casks, bourbon barrels and port casks, the whiskies are brought together to create a layered expression that balances baked fruit, sweet malt, cocoa and warming spice. The combination of cask types is central to its character: sherry contributes depth and dried-fruit notes, bourbon casks help develop softer vanilla nuances, while port casks bring an additional dimension of fruitiness.

The whisky has a golden-bronze appearance and an inviting nose of maple honey, cocoa and baked forest fruits. On the palate, maraschino cherry, baked orange and hazelnut create a generous, rounded impression. Dried fruit and chocolate notes develop further, leading to a lingering finish of sultanas and spiced mocha. It is an unpeated expression, so the emphasis remains on fruit, cask-derived sweetness and gentle spice rather than smoke.

At 46% ABV, The Twelve offers enough intensity for a considered tasting while maintaining a smooth texture. Start by sipping it neat, then add a few drops of water if desired to explore further aromatic nuances. It is particularly enjoyable alongside dark chocolate, toasted nuts or desserts featuring dried fruit.
