Kressmann Grande Réserve Sauternes 2023 is a sweet white Bordeaux wine selected by Maison Kressmann, a historic wine merchant established in 1871.
Produced in the renowned Sauternes appellation, south of Bordeaux, this wine reflects the distinctive character of noble rot wines, celebrated for their concentrated fruit aromas and naturally rich texture.
The 2023 vintage displays a beautiful golden colour and an expressive bouquet of apricots, quince, almonds and candied fruits.
On the palate, it offers a generous, smooth texture with flavours of ripe stone fruits, honey and beeswax. Refreshing acidity provides balance and prevents the sweetness from becoming overwhelming.
This Sauternes pairs particularly well with foie gras, blue cheeses, roasted poultry with sweet spices and fruit-based desserts.
Serve chilled at approximately 10–12°C to appreciate its aromatic richness and elegant finish.
Description
Kressmann Grande Réserve Sauternes 2023 is a sweet white wine from the prestigious Sauternes appellation in Bordeaux, France. Selected by the historic Maison Kressmann, this cuvée combines the rich aromatic character of botrytised grapes with the freshness that distinguishes well-balanced Sauternes wines.
Maison Kressmann: Bordeaux expertise since 1871
Maison Kressmann was established in Bordeaux in 1871 by Édouard Kressmann, whose ambition was to select and distribute wines expressing the distinctive qualities of the region's vineyards.
The Grande Réserve range was introduced in 1897 and has become an important part of the company's heritage.
Its winemaking team continues to select wines that reflect the characteristics of their appellations and vintages.
The unique terroir of Sauternes
Sauternes is located south of Bordeaux, near the Garonne and Ciron rivers.
During autumn, morning mists followed by warmer, drier afternoons create favourable conditions for the development of Botrytis cinerea, the fungus responsible for noble rot.
This natural process concentrates sugars, acidity and aromatic compounds within the grapes.
Sémillon is the principal grape variety traditionally associated with Sauternes, sometimes complemented by Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle.
The art of producing sweet Bordeaux wines
Producing Sauternes requires careful grape selection and often several harvesting passes to collect berries at the desired stage of noble rot.
The concentrated grapes are gently pressed and fermented, retaining natural residual sugars that give the finished wine its characteristic sweetness.
Maison Kressmann selects its Grande Réserve cuvée to achieve an appealing balance between aromatic concentration, richness and freshness.
Tasting notes and food pairings
The 2023 vintage displays a luminous golden colour.
Its aromatic profile combines apricots, quince, almonds and candied fruits, complemented by subtle honeyed notes.
The palate is rich and smooth, revealing flavours of ripe stone fruits, beeswax and preserved apricots.
A refreshing finish balances the wine's natural sweetness.
Kressmann Grande Réserve Sauternes 2023 pairs beautifully with foie gras, Roquefort cheese, mildly spiced Asian cuisine and apricot-based desserts.
Serve at approximately 10–12°C. The wine may also develop additional complexity with careful cellaring.
