Gigondas Les Reinages 2022 Delas: Grenache, Syrah and the Dentelles terroir

The Gigondas Les Reinages 2022 from Maison Delas perfectly illustrates the marriage of Grenache’s generous fruitiness and Syrah’s spicy depth. This cuvée is produced under the Gigondas AOP appellation, in the southern Rhône Valley, on the terroirs stretching around the majestic Dentelles de Montmirail. The appellation’s terraced vineyards combine red clay, pebbles and limestone, lending the wine structure, richness and freshness.

The 2022 vintage is composed of 80 per cent Grenache Noir and 20 per cent Syrah. This blend strikes a balance between power and finesse: the Grenache contributes ripe fruit, roundness and generosity, whilst the Syrah reinforces the structure and adds peppery and spicy notes. The wine has an alcohol content of 14.5% vol. and is available in 75 cl bottles.

The bouquet is particularly alluring. Initial impressions evoke morello cherry and sweet cherry, before giving way to more complex notes of forest floor and spices. On the palate, the wine is heady, dense and generous, yet its texture remains silky. The tannins are present but well-integrated, whilst sufficient freshness balances the richness of the fruit. The long, harmonious finish prolongs the fruity and spicy nuances.

This 2022 Gigondas Les Reinages is an excellent choice to accompany robust dishes: game, roast lamb, Provençal stew, beef in sauce, pepper-crusted tournedos, grilled meats or mature cheeses. It can be enjoyed now after being given a good aeration, or laid down for several years to allow its aromas to develop greater complexity.
