The Château Latour-Martillac Red 2022 is a Grand Cru Classé from Graves that elegantly expresses the character of the great red wines of Pessac-Léognan. Its blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot reveals an intense bouquet of red and black fruits, enhanced by notes of clove and spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, underpinned by remarkable freshness and fine balance. Its long, peppery finish pairs perfectly with a rib of beef, duck breast or roast lamb. A Bordeaux with character, also well-suited for ageing.
Description
The Château Latour-Martillac Red 2022 is an essential choice for lovers of fine red Bordeaux wines. Situated in Martillac, at the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, this estate holds the Grand Cru Classé de Graves classification for both its red and white wines. The estate has been linked to the Kressmann family since 1930, who continue a winemaking tradition renowned for the precision and elegance of its wines.
The 2022 vintage is made from 50 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon, 42 per cent Merlot and 8 per cent Petit Verdot. The Cabernet Sauvignon brings a firm structure and depth, whilst the Merlot contributes to the roundness and fruity expression. Petit Verdot rounds off the blend with a spicy dimension and lovely intensity. The gravel soils of the Martillac plateau provide a terroir particularly well-suited to the expression of these Bordeaux grape varieties.
On tasting, the wine reveals a dark colour with purplish highlights. The nose, intense and expressive, opens with aromas of red and black fruits, accompanied by a hint of clove. On the palate, the wine is rich and generous, whilst retaining remarkable freshness. The balance between the richness of the fruit and the tannic structure gives it a harmonious character. The finish is long and lingering, with peppery notes.
Following fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, the wine is aged for 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels, 40 per cent of which are new. This ageing process contributes to the wine’s aromatic complexity and the integration of the tannins.
To enjoy this red Pessac-Léognan to the full, serve it at between 16 and 18 °C, allowing it to breathe beforehand if necessary. It is the perfect accompaniment to a grilled entrecôte, a rib of beef, a rack of lamb or a duck breast. Its structure also allows it to age well in the cellar.
Château Latour-Martillac 2022 is thus a great Graves wine that combines intensity, freshness and ageing potential, making it perfect for both fine dining and as a heritage wine.
