Château du Cèdre’s Le Cèdre 2019 is an organic red wine from the South-West, produced within the Cahors AOP appellation. Made from 100% Malbec, the appellation’s iconic grape variety, it captivates with its deep colour and aromas of ripe black fruits, violets and spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied and concentrated, underpinned by fine tannins and lovely freshness. Its 24-month ageing in casks and barrels lends it complexity and depth. This characterful Cahors is the perfect accompaniment to duck breast, a rib of beef, a stew or mature cheeses. An organic wine with ageing potential for lovers of full-bodied reds.
Description
Château du Cèdre’s Le Cèdre 2019 is an iconic wine from Cahors, in the vineyards of south-western France. This organic red wine is made exclusively from Malbec, a grape variety that gives the appellation’s wines their deep colour, intense fruitiness and tannic structure.
The vineyard benefits from complementary terroirs, comprising in particular limestone scree cones and ancient high terraces with clay-siliceous soils. The grapes are harvested at full ripeness, then vinified using indigenous yeasts. The vatting period of around thirty days enhances the expression of the fruit and allows for a gradual extraction of the wine’s components. The wine is then aged for 24 months in casks and barrels, which develops its complexity whilst preserving its identity. A small amount of sulphites is added at bottling. The wine has an alcohol content of 13 per cent.
On tasting, its deep colour hints at an intense wine. The nose combines ripe black fruits with notes of violet, spices, fig and cocoa. The palate is full-bodied, fresh and concentrated, with fine tannins that provide structure and lengthen the finish.
This organic Cahors will naturally find its place on a gourmet table. It pairs perfectly with duck breast, grilled rib of beef, game stew or duck confit. It also goes well with cassoulet and mature cheeses, particularly Rocamadour.
To fully appreciate its complexity, serve it at between 16 and 18 °C, after decanting. The 2019 vintage offers lovely depth and promising ageing potential for lovers of great Malbecs from the South-West.
