Château du Cèdre Cahors 2022 Organic Red Wine
Château du Cèdre Cahors 2022 is an organic red wine from the South-West of France, made from 100% Malbec, the emblematic grape variety of the Cahors appellation. Produced by Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe, it reflects the character of the Lot Valley through depth of fruit, freshness and a well-defined tannic structure. The nose reveals aromas of dark fruit and plum, with hints of liquorice, spice and floral notes. On the palate, the wine is generous yet balanced, combining ripe fruit with firm, carefully shaped tannins and a lingering finish. Organic viticulture and the estate’s varied limestone and clay-siliceous soils contribute to its distinctive character. This Cahors is an excellent match for grilled red meat, roast lamb, duck breast, duck confit or traditional cassoulet. Mature cheeses also make a good pairing. Serve at around 16–18°C to appreciate its aromatic complexity and structure. A characterful choice for lovers of organic French red wines and authentic Malbec.
Description
Organic Cahors 2022: The Character of Malbec by Château du Cèdre
Château du Cèdre Cahors 2022 showcases the distinctive personality of Malbec in one of south-western France’s best-known red wine appellations. Made from 100% Malbec and produced under certified organic viticulture, this wine reflects the work of Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe and their commitment to expressing the identity of the Cahors terroir.
The estate’s vineyards include limestone scree slopes and older terraces with clay-siliceous soils. These varied conditions help shape a wine with depth, freshness and a structured tannic backbone. In the glass, the 2022 vintage displays a deep red colour with violet highlights. The bouquet brings together dark berries and plum, complemented by liquorice, spice and subtle floral nuances.
On the palate, the wine is generous and flavourful, with a balance between ripe fruit, freshness and firm tannins. Its persistent finish makes it a rewarding companion to hearty dishes. Pair it with grilled beef, roast lamb, duck breast, duck confit, cassoulet or a slow-cooked game dish. Well-aged cheeses can also provide an appealing match.
For the best tasting experience, serve at approximately 16–18°C. If the wine seems reserved when first opened, allowing it to breathe before serving can help reveal its aromatic range. It can be enjoyed with a meal now or kept in a suitable cellar to follow its development over time.
Château du Cèdre Cahors 2022 is a compelling option for anyone seeking an organic French red wine with a clear sense of place, a strong Malbec identity and the structure to accompany rich, flavourful food.
