Citadelle gin is distilled four times and contains 19 botanicals: juniper berries, coriander, almonds, cassia bark, cardamom, grains of paradise, violets, fennel and cinnamon.The alcohol base is produced from wheat in a triple distillation process, and the plants are added in the fourth distillation.

Have you heard of Citadelle, a Gin from France?

Voted the world's best gin in 2008, Citadelle has won over a hundred medals in various competitions. Produced in the Cognac region, it takes its name from the Citadelle de Dunkerque in northern France, which was home to a royal distillery in the 18th century. Known for its cognac production, Ferrand distils wheat alcohol three times in a column still, before adding 19 medicinal plants for a fourth pass through a small bare-bottomed copper still.

Tasting Citadelle Gin

Lemon and orange peel provide a lovely citrus expression, complemented by juniper, floral, herbaceous, aniseed and smoky notes. The whole is delicate, long on the palate and spicy, with a slightly sweet, highly aromatic finish. Enjoy it neat or as a gin and tonic. An original pairing with a platter of oysters.
