VOLNAY 1er Cru CLOS 60 OUVREES Domaine de la POUSSE D'OR 2017 75 cl

Volnay Premier Cru Clos des 60 Ouvrées 2017: A Monopole Pinot Noir from Domaine de la Pousse d'Or

The Volnay Premier Cru Clos des 60 Ouvrées 2017 is a red Burgundy wine produced by Domaine de la Pousse d'Or, located in the village of Volnay on the Côte de Beaune.

This wine comes from a historic 2.39-hectare walled vineyard situated within the prestigious Les Caillerets Premier Cru area, close to the boundary with Meursault.

The Clos des 60 Ouvrées is a monopole, meaning that Domaine de la Pousse d'Or owns and cultivates the entire vineyard.

Made exclusively from Pinot Noir, the 2017 vintage displays aromas of cherry, red berries and delicate spices. The palate combines precision, concentration and a silky texture, reflecting the elegance associated with Volnay Premier Cru wines.

The wine is matured on its lees in oak barrels for approximately fifteen months. It is bottled without fining or filtration to preserve its natural character.

This Premier Cru has the structure and balance required for further bottle ageing, allowing more complex aromas to develop over time.

It pairs particularly well with roasted poultry, pigeon, duck, veal and refined beef dishes.

Serving at approximately 15–16°C allows its fruit aromas and delicate structure to remain expressive.

The Clos des 60 Ouvrées 2017 offers a distinctive interpretation of Burgundy Pinot Noir, shaped by a precisely defined vineyard and the winemaking expertise of Domaine de la Pousse d'Or.

Description

Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Clos des 60 Ouvrées 2017: Burgundy Terroir and Ageing Potential

Domaine de la Pousse d'Or is one of the historic wine estates of Volnay, a village situated on Burgundy's Côte de Beaune between Pommard and Meursault. The estate is particularly renowned for its collection of Premier Cru vineyards, including several monopoles.

Among these, the Clos des 60 Ouvrées occupies a distinctive position. This walled vineyard covers approximately 2.39 hectares and lies within the Les Caillerets Premier Cru area of Volnay.

The vineyard is owned entirely by Domaine de la Pousse d'Or, giving the estate exclusive responsibility for its cultivation and winemaking.

The term ouvrée refers to a traditional Burgundian land measurement, historically associated with the area of vineyard that could be worked by one person in a day. The name Clos des 60 Ouvrées reflects this regional agricultural heritage.

The wine is produced entirely from Pinot Noir, Burgundy's principal red grape variety. Pinot Noir is particularly valued for its ability to express differences in soil, exposure and vineyard location.

Volnay is known for red wines that combine aromatic delicacy, refined tannins and ageing potential. Within this appellation, the Les Caillerets area is associated with some of the village's most distinguished Premier Cru wines.

Domaine de la Pousse d'Or has been associated with the Landanger family since Patrick Landanger acquired the estate in 1997. The property manages vineyards across both the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits, producing Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines.

The estate follows a vineyard-focused approach, with careful attention to soil management and grape quality. Harvesting is carried out by hand, while winemaking techniques are designed to preserve the character of Pinot Noir.

The Clos des 60 Ouvrées is aged on its lees in oak barrels for approximately fifteen months. The wine is then bottled without fining or filtration.

The 2017 vintage displays a concentrated bouquet with notes of cherry, red berries and delicate spice. On the palate, it offers a refined texture, precise structure and an elegant finish.

The balance between fruit, acidity and tannins gives the wine the potential to develop additional complexity during bottle ageing.

With maturity, fine Burgundy Pinot Noir can acquire tertiary aromas of forest floor, mushrooms, dried flowers and subtle earthy spices. The development of these characteristics depends on storage conditions and the evolution of individual bottles.

This Volnay Premier Cru is particularly suitable for gastronomic pairings. Roasted pigeon, truffled poultry, duck and delicately prepared beef dishes complement its refined structure.

A serving temperature of approximately 15–16°C is recommended. Depending on the bottle's condition, gentle aeration may help reveal its aromatic complexity.

The Clos des 60 Ouvrées 2017 represents an expression of Burgundy's vineyard heritage, combining a historic monopole, a recognised Premier Cru terroir and the elegance of mature Pinot Noir.
