Lemorton 10 Year Old Réserve Calvados
Vieux Calvados Lemorton 10 ans Réserve is a Normandy apple-and-pear spirit from the Domfrontais area, where the Lemorton family has developed its expertise over several generations. The estate’s distinctive approach uses approximately 70% pears and 30% apples, giving its Calvados a fruit-led character that sets it apart from expressions made predominantly from apples.
Aged for ten years in oak casks, this Calvados retains a clear expression of orchard fruit while gaining additional aromatic depth from maturation. Its tasting profile features ripe fruit, with notes of baked apple and a buttery character reminiscent of French apple tart. The palate is described as fine and aromatic, with a long-lasting finish.
Enjoy it neat at room temperature as an after-dinner digestif, allowing time for the aromas to develop in the glass. It also makes a natural match for apple or pear desserts. For drinkers interested in traditional French spirits, Lemorton 10 ans Réserve offers an introduction to the distinctive pear-driven style associated with Domfrontais Calvados.
Description
Lemorton 10 Year Old Réserve: the pear-led character of Domfrontais
Produced in Mantilly in the Orne department of Normandy, Lemorton’s family estate specialises in traditional cider-based drinks, including perry, pommeau and Calvados. The estate is particularly associated with a high proportion of pears in its Calvados: around 70% pears and 30% apples. This emphasis on pears reflects the distinctive orchard traditions of the Domfrontais area and contributes to the spirit’s fruit-forward identity.
The 10 Year Old Réserve matures in oak casks for ten years. During this period, the spirit develops additional depth while retaining the aromatic character of the fruit used in its production. Lemorton describes the ten-year expression as fine, light and aromatic, with a notably long finish. Its tasting notes include baked apple and a buttery impression reminiscent of tarte Tatin, bringing to mind the familiar flavours of Normandy’s orchard fruit and apple desserts.
To enjoy this Calvados, serve it neat at room temperature in a suitable tasting glass. Allowing it to rest briefly can help reveal its aromas. It works well as an after-dinner digestif and pairs naturally with apple tart, baked pears or other fruit-based desserts. Its ten years of maturation make it an appealing option for those looking to explore aged Calvados while retaining a clear connection to the fruit.
Bottled at 40% ABV in a 70 cl format, Lemorton 10 Year Old Réserve offers a taste of the Domfrontais tradition, with the estate’s characteristic emphasis on pears and the added complexity of oak ageing.
