THE NAKED GROUSE 70CL

THE NAKED GROUSE 70CL

The Naked Grouse 70cl: A Rich and Fruity Scotch Whisky with Sherry Cask Influence

The Naked Grouse 70cl is a Scottish whisky originally developed as part of The Famous Grouse range.

Known for its rich and fruity character, it is particularly associated with the influence of Sherry casks.

These casks contribute aromas of dried fruit, ripe cherries, orange peel and gentle spices.

On the nose, dried raisins and sweet malt combine with caramel and citrus notes.

The palate is smooth and generous, revealing flavours of ripe fruit, honey and chocolate.

The finish develops subtle oak spices and lingering dried fruit.

The Naked Grouse is also recognised for its distinctive bottle, featuring an embossed grouse instead of a traditional front label.

Originally launched as a Blended Scotch Whisky, the expression was reformulated as a Blended Malt in 2017 and subsequently renamed Naked Malt.

Bottled at 40% ABV, this fruity Scotch whisky can be enjoyed neat, over ice or in a classic whisky cocktail.

Description

The Famous Grouse Naked Grouse: A Fruity Scotch Whisky Inspired by Sherry Casks

A Distinctive Expression from The Famous Grouse

The Naked Grouse is a Scotch whisky originally introduced as part of The Famous Grouse collection.

Launched in 2011, it was designed to offer a richer and fruitier alternative to the brand's traditional blended whisky.

Its character is closely associated with Sherry cask maturation, which contributes dried fruit, caramel and gentle spice flavours.

The result is a smooth and approachable Scotch with a generous aromatic profile.

The Evolution of Naked Grouse

The Naked Grouse has undergone several changes since its introduction.

The original version was a Blended Scotch Whisky containing both malt and grain whiskies.

In 2017, the expression was reformulated as a Blended Malt Scotch Whisky.

This new version contained malt whiskies from several Scottish distilleries, without grain whisky.

In 2021, the product was renamed Naked Malt.

These changes explain why bottles carrying the Naked Grouse name may belong to different whisky categories.

The Influence of Sherry Casks

Sherry casks play an important role in the whisky's aromatic identity.

Oak casks previously seasoned with Sherry can contribute flavours of dried raisins, candied fruit, nuts and sweet spices.

The Blended Malt version introduced in 2017 received an additional finishing period of at least six months in first-fill Oloroso Sherry casks.

This process enhanced the whisky's rich fruit character.

The specific maturation details should nevertheless be checked against the bottle, as the earlier blended expression followed a different production formula.

Tasting Notes: Dried Fruit, Cherry and Chocolate

The Naked Grouse displays an amber colour.

The nose opens with dried fruit, ripe cherries and candied orange peel.

Sweet malt and caramel add depth to the aroma.

On the palate, the whisky offers a smooth, rounded texture.

Raisins, ripe fruit and honey are complemented by chocolate and subtle oak notes.

The finish is gently spicy, with lingering dried fruit flavours.

An Unusual Bottle Design

One of the most recognisable features of Naked Grouse is its bottle.

Instead of a conventional front label, the famous grouse emblem is embossed directly into the glass.

This distinctive presentation gives the whisky a clean and immediately identifiable appearance.

Serving Suggestions and Food Pairings

The Naked Grouse can be enjoyed neat in a whisky tasting glass.

Adding a few drops of water may reveal additional malt and fruit aromas.

It can also be served over ice.

For cocktails, its rich fruit character works particularly well in an Old Fashioned.

Food pairings include dark chocolate, walnut tart and desserts featuring dried fruit.

Its balance of fruit, sweetness and gentle spice makes it an interesting choice for whisky enthusiasts who enjoy Sherry-influenced Scotch.
