The Van Steenberge Brewery, founded in 1784, is world-renowned for its characterful beers and brewing expertise. With this Gulden Draak Calvados Barrel Aged, it offers a limited edition that combines the richness of its iconic strong beer with ageing in carefully selected Calvados casks. This ageing process allows the wood to impart indulgent nuances and remarkable aromatic depth without masking the beer’s identity.

The deep mahogany colour, topped with a generous beige head, promises an exceptional tasting experience. The nose reveals aromas of baked apple, pear, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, dried fruit and toasted oak. As it breathes, notes of honey, gingerbread, hazelnut and a subtle hint of Calvados emerge. On the palate, the attack is full-bodied, round and warm. Flavours of caramelised malt, candied apple, prune, toffee and spices are perfectly balanced with the oaky notes from the ageing process. The finish is long, complex and delicately marked by oak and ripe fruit.

Served at between 10 and 12 °C in a balloon glass, this beer is the ideal accompaniment to pan-fried foie gras, duck breast, mature cheeses, an apple dessert or a chocolate fondant. It also has excellent ageing potential.
