Troussepinette Vin Rouge aux Épines Noires is a traditional wine-based aperitif from Vendée, in western France. Produced by Distillerie Vrignaud, based in Mareuil-sur-Lay, it combines red wine with the distinctive aromas of wild blackthorn.

Troussepinette has deep roots in the rural traditions of Vendée. Families once prepared their own aperitifs using wine, sugar, spirits and plants gathered from the surrounding countryside.

One of the most characteristic ingredients was the young shoot of the blackthorn shrub, traditionally harvested during spring.

Known botanically as Prunus spinosa, blackthorn is a thorny wild plant that produces dark sloes in autumn.

For this regional aperitif, however, the young shoots are the key ingredient rather than the fruit itself.

Their maceration develops distinctive aromas reminiscent of fruit stones, almonds and fresh vegetation.

The red wine expression produced by Vrignaud combines light, low-tannin red wine, wine spirit, sugar and macerated blackthorn shoots.

The wine contributes fruitiness and freshness, while the blackthorn brings a distinctive aromatic depth.
