BRANCA Madeira Agricole Rum: the tradition of fresh sugarcane

BRANCA 40° is a white agricole rum made by Engenhos do Norte, a distillery established in 1927 in Porto da Cruz, on the northern coast of Madeira. The island’s history is closely connected with sugarcane cultivation, and this rum reflects that heritage through the use of freshly pressed cane juice rather than molasses.

Production begins with the extraction of the juice from sugarcane. The juice ferments for approximately 48 hours before being distilled in a column still. The resulting spirit is then reduced to 40% ABV for bottling. As an unaged white rum, BRANCA focuses on the character of the cane itself, without the additional aromas that develop during prolonged maturation in oak casks.

The aromatic profile features fresh sugarcane and floral notes. On the palate, vegetal flavours and citrus-like freshness create a lively, straightforward style. Its moderate bottling strength makes it suitable for a range of uses, from sipping slightly chilled to mixing in cocktails that benefit from a clear cane-spirit character.
