The Jura Distillery produces its single malts on a wild island off the west coast of Scotland. Its style is characterised in particular by fruity, well-balanced whiskies, produced in exceptionally tall stills which contribute to the distillate’s finesse. The Jura 15 Year Old Sherry Cask Manzanilla perfectly illustrates this quest for balance between the spirit’s character and the influence of the casks.

Maturation begins in ex-Bourbon American oak casks, which give the whisky a smooth, fruity base. The single malt is then transferred to a selection of 500-litre Manzanilla sherry butts. This fortified wine from Andalusia, renowned for its dry character and freshness, lends a particularly interesting dimension to this 15-year-old expression.

On the nose, it reveals aromas of candied lemon, orange zest and almond. The attack on the palate is fresh and balanced, with ripe citrus fruits accompanied by a delicate hint of sherry and a slight briny note. The finish lingers with an elegant salty sensation, evoking sea spray.

Bottled at 46% ABV, at natural colour and without chill filtration, this Single Malt thus retains a particularly authentic character. It is best enjoyed neat, in a suitable glass, to fully appreciate its aromatic richness. A few drops of water can also help to gradually open up the whisky.
