The whiskey is made from a grain mash containing corn, rye and malted barley. Before ageing, it is slowly mellowed through sugar maple charcoal, a process that distinguishes Tennessee Whiskey from many other American whiskey styles.

The spirit then matures in new American white oak barrels with charred interiors. The interaction with the oak develops its amber colour and contributes to the flavours of vanilla, caramel and wood.
