The 2015 Philippe Heitz Pinot Gris Sélection de Grains Nobles Hahnenberg is a cuvée that showcases the full power and complexity that Pinot Gris can achieve in Alsace. The Hahnenberg vineyard, situated in Molsheim, benefits from a terroir particularly well-suited to the production of concentrated wines. The Philippe Heitz estate, based in Molsheim, cultivates its vineyards in accordance with the principles of organic farming.

The distinctive feature of this cuvée lies in the Sélection de Grains Nobles. The grapes are harvested when noble rot naturally concentrates the sugars and aromatic compounds within the berries. This method yields wines of great density, but also of remarkable complexity.

In its review of a Hahnenberg cuvée by Philippe Heitz, the Guide Hachette highlights the wine’s aromatic depth, with a deep golden colour, a rich nose of honey and candied fruit, and a complex, velvety and lingering palate. The guide also highlights the wine’s lack of heaviness, despite its extreme richness.

The 2015 vintage lends this wine a lovely maturity. On tasting, one may detect notes of honey, apricot and candied yellow fruits, accompanied by dried fruit, marzipan and slightly toasty nuances. The palate is characterised by a syrupy, full-bodied and velvety texture, extended by a long finish.
