Description
Delirium Noël 75 cl is an iconic Christmas beer from Brasserie Huyghe, a Belgian brewery based in Melle. Brewed especially for the winter season, this top-fermented amber beer boasts an alcohol content of 10% ABV and a moderate bitterness of 26 IBU. It is also distinguished by its traditional 75 cl bottle, sealed with a cork and wire cage. Brasserie Huyghe also notes that Delirium Noël undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle, which contributes to its character and effervescence.
In the glass, Delirium Noël displays a magnificent chestnut-amber colour, accompanied by a white, fine, creamy and persistent head clinging to the sides of the glass. The nose is particularly expressive, combining aromas of caramel malt, fruit and spices, complemented by a warming sensation derived from its high alcohol content. This aromatic combination immediately lends it a wintery, indulgent character.
On the palate, the beer is rich and full-bodied. The alcohol provides warmth, whilst the malty and caramelised notes are accompanied by a strongly spiced character. A slight bitterness balances out the overall sweetness. The finish is long, with a return to sweetness, spices and a pleasant bitterness.
This Belgian Christmas beer will naturally find its place on a festive table. It pairs well with roast poultry, a slow-cooked dish, game, mature cheeses, as well as desserts featuring chocolate, dried fruit or spices. Served at around 8 to 10 °C, it also makes an excellent beer to savour at a leisurely pace at the end of a meal.
