Description
Art & Cask’s Strathmill 2014–2022 is a limited edition that highlights the marriage of a Speyside single malt and a cask with an unusual history. Distilled in March 2014 and bottled in July 2022 at the age of 8 years, it was selected by Patrice Villeger, whose work combines a deep knowledge of whiskies with a particular focus on cooperage.
The ex-Islay whisky cask used for its maturation underwent intense charring, known as ‘Heavy Char’. This characteristic is the main point of interest in this cuvée: it allows us to explore another facet of Strathmill by utilising a cask from a region renowned for its whiskies, which are often characterised by smoke and peat. The actual influence of the cask remains specific to this selection and should not be mistaken for a guarantee of pronounced peatiness in the final whisky.
Bottled at 50% ABV and unchill-filtered, this single malt comes from cask no. 2100830A/B. The limited run of 413 bottles highlights its exclusive nature and its appeal to enthusiasts of independent bottlings. It can be enjoyed neat to discover its initial character, then with a few drops of water to observe how the aromas and texture evolve.
This Strathmill offers an intriguing option for connoisseurs wishing to explore the diversity of Scotch whiskies beyond the usual well-known names. It illustrates the crucial role played by cask selection in creating a unique expression, and Art & Cask’s commitment to offering small-batch bottlings, identified by their origin, age and cask number.
