Château du Breuil XO 6-Year-Old Calvados – Aged in Oak
Château du Breuil XO 6-Year-Old is a Calvados from the Pays d’Auge appellation in Normandy, France. Made from cider, it is double-distilled in traditional pot stills and aged in oak casks for at least six years. This maturation develops a deeper aromatic profile while preserving the apple character at the heart of the spirit.
The nose reveals baked apple and French-style apple tart notes, accompanied by vanilla, caramel and warm spices. On the palate, the texture is smooth and rounded, with oak notes complementing the ripe fruit. The finish is lingering, bringing together fruit and spice.
Bottled at 40% ABV in a 70 cl format, this XO Calvados is well suited to neat sipping after a meal. It can be paired with dark chocolate or enjoyed alongside coffee, both of which complement its rich, mature character. It is also a good option for a tasting focused on Normandy’s traditional apple spirits.
With six years of oak ageing, Château du Breuil XO offers a more developed style than a young Calvados, combining baked apple, gentle sweetness and warming spice in a balanced expression.
Description
Château du Breuil XO 6 Years – A Mature Expression of Pays d’Auge Calvados
Produced in Normandy, Château du Breuil XO 6 Years is a Calvados from the Pays d’Auge appellation. The spirit is made from cider and double-distilled in traditional pot stills before ageing in oak casks for at least six years. This maturation period allows the apple spirit to develop greater depth, bringing together ripe fruit aromas and the more complex notes formed in wood.
Baked apple and apple tart aromas lead the nose, followed by hints of vanilla, caramel and warm spices. On the palate, the texture is smooth and rounded. The fruit remains prominent, while oak contributes structure and a deeper aromatic dimension. The finish is persistent, with fruit and spice continuing after each sip.
Bottled at 40% ABV in a 70 cl format, this XO Calvados is best enjoyed neat after a meal. Taking time to appreciate it in the glass allows its mature fruit and oak notes to unfold. It can also be paired with dark chocolate, whose bitterness complements the spirit’s baked apple and caramel character, or served alongside coffee at the end of a meal.
Château du Breuil XO 6 Years is suited to drinkers looking for a more mature Calvados than a young, fruit-forward expression. Its minimum six-year oak ageing gives it a rounded, developed profile while retaining the apple character that defines this Normandy spirit.
