The Pierre Moncuit-Delos Grand Cru Cuvée is a Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne made exclusively from 100 per cent Chardonnay grapes sourced from the prestigious Grand Cru terroir of Mesnil-sur-Oger, on the Côte des Blancs. This iconic cuvée from Maison Pierre Moncuit captivates with its elegance, freshness and lovely minerality. The nose subtly evokes lemon and grapefruit, whilst the palate is crisp, lively and delicately briny. Around three years’ ageing in the cellar lend it finesse and complexity.
Description
The Pierre Moncuit-Delos Cuvée is the flagship cuvée of Maison Pierre Moncuit. It draws its identity from the Grand Cru terroir of Mesnil-sur-Oger, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, one of Champagne’s most renowned terroirs for Chardonnay. The chalky soils of this commune allow the grape variety to develop a particularly fresh, mineral and precise character. The House produces this cuvée exclusively from Chardonnays grown on its Grand Cru terroir.
This Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne stands out first and foremost for its aromatic elegance. The nose reveals notes of citrus, notably lemon and grapefruit, complemented by hints of white fruit and a mineral quality reminiscent of chalk. With aeration, the wine gains in complexity and may develop floral, slightly brioche-like and almond-like nuances.
On the palate, the attack is crisp and fresh. The texture is fine and silky, underpinned by a lovely tangy acidity. The minerality of Mesnil-sur-Oger comes through fully with a long, delicately salty finish, which lends great precision to the whole. The dosage of around 7 grams per litre helps to preserve the balance between freshness, fruit and roundness.
The Cuvée Delos is aged for around three years in the cellar, allowing it to develop greater depth whilst retaining the purity of the Chardonnay. Maison Pierre Moncuit particularly recommends it as an aperitif or with a seafood platter. Oysters, prawns, langoustines, delicate fish or lemon-based dishes also pair beautifully with its fresh, briny profile.
