Discover Kiyoko Yuzu, an original Japanese aperitif that combines Junmai sake with fresh yuzu juice, a citrus fruit renowned for its intense fragrance and zesty flavour. Hailing from the island of Honshū, this aperitif reveals notes of citrus, lemon and delicate flowers, with a fresh, slightly tangy and subtly sweet palate. With an alcohol content of just 8% vol., it is best enjoyed well chilled, over ice, or mixed with tonic water. It also makes for a delightful take on the classic Spritz, ideal for an exotic and sophisticated aperitif.
Description
Yuzu holds a special place in Japanese cuisine. Prised for its powerful fragrance and tangy freshness, this citrus fruit is used in both cooking and drinks. With Kiyoko Yuzu, it becomes the centrepiece of a Japanese aperitif that combines the fruit’s liveliness with the finesse of Junmai sake.
Expertise inspired by Japanese tradition
Kiyoko is produced in the Kansai region on the island of Honshū, an area where the climate is ideal for growing yuzu. The fruits are hand-picked and pressed immediately to preserve their aromatic freshness. Their juice is then blended with a Junmai sake made from Gohyakumangoku rice and Miyamizu water. This combination creates a unique drink that highlights the natural character of the ingredients.
Citrusy flavours and a balanced sweetness
Tasting reveals a profile dominated by citrus notes. The yuzu evokes lemon, mandarin and grapefruit, with floral nuances that enrich the bouquet. The palate is lively and refreshing, whilst the sweetness of the sake balances the fruit’s acidity. The overall impression is light and fragrant, with a pleasant finish that invites you to continue tasting.
With an alcohol content of 8% vol. according to the version marketed by Calais Vins, Kiyoko Yuzu stands out from stronger spirits thanks to its approachable nature and versatility.
An aperitif that’s easy to serve and share
For a simple way to enjoy it, pour Kiyoko over ice in a suitable glass. You can also top it up with tonic water to enhance its refreshing quality, or mix it with sparkling wine for a Spritz-inspired cocktail. At the table, its citrus notes pair particularly well with raw or marinated fish, seafood and light appetisers.
With its distinct Japanese character, fruity profile and moderate alcohol content, Kiyoko Yuzu is a wonderful discovery for lovers of new flavours and original cocktails.
