Arran Amarone Cask Finish whisky is a Scotch single malt produced on the Isle of Arran in the Hebrides. Distilled at the Lochranza distillery, it is initially matured in traditional oak casks, before being finished in casks that previously held Amarone, a fine Italian red wine from the Veneto region. This finishing process lends it a unique aromatic richness, blending cherry, ripe red berries, dark chocolate and sweet spices. Bottled at 50% ABV, without chill filtration or added colouring, this unpeated whisky captivates with its balance of generous fruitiness, malty sweetness and oaky elegance. Description
The Arran Amarone Cask Finish stands out for its generous aromatic profile and its distinctive finish. Produced on the Scottish island of Arran, at the Lochranza distillery, this unpeated single malt combines the character of the malt with the influence of casks that previously held an Italian red wine from the Veneto region.
Its maturation in oak casks is followed by a finishing period in Amarone casks. This second stage enriches the whisky with fruity and spicy notes, whilst preserving the characteristic freshness of the Arran distillery. The result is a full-bodied, expressive and well-balanced spirit.
The nose opens with notes of poached pear and honey, accompanied by toasted almonds and a hint of cranberry. The palate gains in intensity with aromas of cherry, dark chocolate, cooked fruit and caramel. The finish combines malty sweetness, fruit and woody notes, with a pleasant length.
Its 50% ABV gives it a distinct presence. It is best enjoyed neat to fully appreciate the richness of its aromas; a few drops of water may be added according to personal preference. In terms of food pairings, dark chocolate, roasted almonds and lightly sweetened desserts featuring red berries complement its character particularly well.
