The San Ghjuvà Riserva Blanc from the Vignerons d’Aghione is a Corsican white wine with the Vin de Corse AOP designation, made from 100 per cent Vermentinu. This expressive cuvée captivates with its pearly green-gold colour and elegant nose, characterised by minerality, pear, lemon and white flowers. Hints of marzipan and coconut round off its aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine reveals a delicate, round and slightly buttery texture, with a lovely balance between freshness and richness. An ideal Corsican wine to enjoy as an aperitif or with seafood.
Description
With San Ghjuvà Riserva Blanc, the Vignerons d’Aghione offer an elegant and contemporary take on Corsican wine. The Riserva range comprises single-varietal wines that showcase the island’s great grape varieties: Vermentinu for the white, Sciaccarellu for the rosé and Niellucciu for the red.
This 100% Vermentinu Corsican white stands out for its particularly alluring character. Its bouquet combines a mineral backbone with aromas of fresh pear, lemon, white flowers, marzipan and coconut. This combination lends it freshness, finesse and a delicious, indulgent character. The palate continues this impression with a supple, round and delicately buttery texture.
Ageing on lees and bâtonnage play an important role in the style of this cuvée. This technique involves stirring the fine lees back into suspension to impart greater volume, complexity and texture to the wine. The result is a Corsican white that is approachable whilst young but sufficiently structured to accompany a full meal.
At the table, the San Ghjuvà Riserva Blanc proves to be very versatile. It pairs beautifully with grilled fish, prawns, langoustines, shellfish or a seafood platter. For a more typically island-style pairing, it can be served with Corsican specialities and certain cheeses from the island. Its freshness also makes it an excellent aperitif wine.
An ideal wine for discovering Corsican Vermentinu in a style that is aromatic, fresh, rounded and perfect for fine dining.
