The San Ghjuvà Riserva Red is a cuvée that perfectly captures the identity of Niellucciu, Corsica’s iconic red grape variety. In the Riserva range, the Vignerons d’Aghione have chosen to showcase the island’s grape varieties through single-varietal wines: Vermentinu for the white, Sciaccarellu for the rosé and Niellucciu for the red.

This Corsican red wine boasts a deep, alluring purple colour. Its nose is immediately recognisable for its aromas of leather and myrtle berries, intermingled with more complex nuances of vanilla, balsamic notes and eucalyptus. This aromatic palette gives it a distinctively Mediterranean character, naturally evoking the Corsican maquis.

Traditional red wine production involves macerating the juice with the solid parts of the grape during fermentation. Pigeage—the process of regularly pushing the cap of grape skins back into contact with the juice—helps to extract colour, aromas and structure.

On the palate, San Ghjuvà Riserva Red is structured, balanced and spicy, with enough character to accompany hearty dishes. It is particularly well-suited to Corsican cured meats, figatellu, prisuttu, red meats and game. It can also be paired with a civet or slow-cooked dishes.

Serve at between 14 and 16 °C to preserve its fruitiness and aromatic expression.
