San Ghjuvà Terra Rouge: the power and finesse of Corsican terroirs

The San Ghjuvà Terra Rouge from the Vignerons d’Aghione is an invitation to discover the full character of Corsican red wines. Classified as an IGP Île de Beauté, this wine showcases the richness of the island’s grape varieties and the Mediterranean identity of the vineyards on the eastern plain. It forms part of the Terra range, a selection of plots carefully chosen for their ability to express the diversity of Corsican terroirs. This collection seeks a balance between minerality, power and finesse, with wines that reflect their natural environment.

The Terra Rouge blend combines three grape varieties: Niellucciu, Carcaghjolu Neru and Syrah. Niellucciu, a staple of Corsican viticulture, brings structure and character. Carcaghjolu Neru, a traditional grape variety of the island, contributes to the blend’s distinctive identity, whilst Syrah adds to its aromatic richness and spicy character. This combination results in a typically Mediterranean red wine, blending island tradition with a bold character.

On tasting, Terra Rouge reveals an elegant purple colour. The nose is expressive, refined and spicy, with an aromatic palette evoking the richness of Corsican grape varieties. On the palate, it reveals a pronounced structure, accompanied by a smooth texture and generous body. The wine as a whole offers a distinct personality, whilst retaining a certain suppleness that makes it easy to pair with food.

The Aghione winegrowers particularly recommend this cuvée with a wood-fired tiger-striped veal chop, served with sweet potato fries, or with a wild boar stew. These pairings particularly highlight its spicy character and structure. It also pairs well with grilled meats, stews and certain Corsican specialities.
