Jean-Charles Rion Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Les Beaux Monts is a red Burgundy wine made exclusively from Pinot Noir. It comes from one of the recognised Premier Cru vineyards of Vosne-Romanée, in the Côte de Nuits.
The Les Beaux Monts vineyard occupies an elevated position on the slopes above the village. Its predominantly south-eastern exposure and limestone-based soils contribute to the distinctive character of the wines.
Domaine Jean-Charles Rion follows a sustainable approach to viticulture, with controlled yields and hand harvesting. The grapes are carefully sorted before fermentation in open stainless-steel vats.
Maceration periods vary according to the vintage, while the estate's red wines are generally matured in oak barrels for approximately twelve months.
The 2022 vintage displays a deep purple-garnet colour. Its aromatic profile combines raspberry, strawberry, blackberry and blackcurrant, complemented by delicate sweet spices.
On the palate, the wine offers concentration, freshness and a silky texture. Fine tannins support a persistent finish, while the oak influence remains discreet.
This Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru pairs well with roasted veal, pigeon, poultry and carefully prepared red meat dishes.
Description
Domaine Jean-Charles Rion produces its Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Les Beaux Monts from Pinot Noir grapes grown in one of the village's most recognised Premier Cru vineyards.
Located in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée is internationally renowned for its Pinot Noir wines. The village is home to several celebrated Grand Cru vineyards, as well as Premier Cru sites capable of producing wines with considerable depth and ageing potential.
Les Beaux Monts is situated on the slopes above the village, in an area characterised by limestone formations, relatively shallow soils and a predominantly south-eastern exposure.
The vineyard's elevated position contributes to its distinctive growing conditions. These characteristics influence grape ripening and help shape the balance between fruit concentration, acidity and tannic structure.
Domaine Jean-Charles Rion is based in Premeaux-Prissey, near Nuits-Saint-Georges. The estate cultivates approximately 9.5 hectares across several Côte de Nuits appellations, including Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Clos de Vougeot and Échezeaux.
The estate follows a sustainable approach to vineyard management, limiting unnecessary inputs and carefully controlling yields. Grapes are harvested by hand and sorted before vinification.
Fermentation takes place in open stainless-steel vats, with temperatures monitored throughout the process. Maceration generally lasts between fifteen days and three weeks, depending on the wine and vintage.
The estate's red wines are then matured in oak barrels for approximately twelve months. This ageing period allows the tannins to integrate while adding subtle complexity to the fruit-driven character of the Pinot Noir.
The 2022 Les Beaux Monts displays a clear purple-garnet appearance with bluish reflections. Its bouquet features raspberry, strawberry, blackberry and blackcurrant, supported by a discreet oak influence.
The palate is concentrated and complex, with a rich texture balanced by freshness. Fine, delicate tannins create a silky mouthfeel, while dark-fruit flavours and sweet spices contribute to the persistent finish.
This Premier Cru has the structure required for further bottle development under appropriate storage conditions. With maturity, Pinot Noir wines from the Côte de Nuits may develop additional earthy, floral and savoury nuances.
For food pairing, Jean-Charles Rion Les Beaux Monts is particularly suitable for roasted veal, pigeon, game birds and poultry with mushrooms. Its combination of fruit concentration and refined tannins also works well with delicately prepared beef dishes.
A serving temperature of approximately 16°C helps preserve its aromatic freshness. Depending on the wine's maturity, gentle aeration may allow the bouquet to open progressively.
The wine illustrates the relationship between a precisely defined Burgundy Premier Cru vineyard, careful vineyard management and the aromatic potential of Pinot Noir.
