Claeyssens Distillery Juniper Eau de Vie from Wambrechies

Claeyssens Wambrechies Distillery

Even if the Claeyssens family settled in Wambrechies in 1789, it was not until 1815 to find traces of the first distillations. The location chosen to set up a distillery is particularly judicious. Everything comes together to work calmly and efficiently. The Deule canal facilitates the transport of coal and cereals, the existing water mill allows cereals to be grinded, a quality, almost flush water table ensures the water supply. Everything comes together to make a beautiful brandy. The 1930s were the height of the consumption of eaux-de-vie, this alcohol which appealed to all social classes. Little by little, the consumption of juniper has reduced and the Wambrechies distillery has diversified by offering more high-end products, malt-based alcohols that have nothing to envy to fine whiskeys, but also to products with a strong ch'ti connotation such as Chuche Mourette. Today the Loos distillery, the Persyn distillery in Houlle and the Wambrechies distillery are the last operating distilleries in the North of France.

The Brasserie St Germain, which manufactures the beer and the Artesia Whiskey, has taken over the distillation activities of the Claeyssens distillery.
