On the nose, this Speyside The Balvenie 12 year old Signature is charming, marked by ripe fruit, apricot, honey and malted barley. It becomes more and more "rustic" when aired. Notes of chocolate and toffee. Concentrated on the palate, it confirms the aromas of the nose on cereals and green malt. Presence of oak and honey. Grows on milk chocolate. A fine bitterness finish of oak. Not peated.
This new version of The Balvenie results from the assembly of three types of barrels: sherry barrels of first filling combined with bourbon barrels of first and second filling. This new The Balvenie is by David Stewart, the iconic Malt Master of this Speyside distillery. It also marks its 45th anniversary in the service of the whiskey industry.
