Description

Whiskey Port Charlotte 10 years old Heavily Peated by Bruichladdich is a whiskey produced in Scotland, marketed by the Bruichladdich distillery.

The Bruichladddich distillery was created in 1881 on the west coast of Islay opposite Bowmore. But it was really in the 2000s, after its acquisition by the company Murray Mac David, an independent bottler, that Bruichladdich took off in the form we know him. The people of Bruichladdich describe themselves as nonconformists, easily breaking away from tradition and exploring new avenues. The distiller and cellar master Jim Mc Ewan, a former Bowmore who worked there for 37 years, has stopped counting the finishing tests he has attempted. Bruichladdich's style is marked by saline notes, hints of salted butter caramel, biscuit and fruity notes of lemon and green apple. All this is linked to the shapes of the stills whose necks are very elongated, this characteristic helps to produce this delicious Islay whiskey quite light and fluid. The Bruichladdich distillery promotes short circuits and contracts for the supply of barley with farmers in Islay, as well as a bottling line has been set up on Islay to establish itself in the societal landscape of the island.

This whiskey is produced on the Isle of Islay.

The whiskeys from the Isle of Islay all have this characteristic and common style, this presence of smoky notes, due to the peat used to dry the barley during the malting operation. Peat burns up more than it burns and gives off a lot of smoke. It is this smoke that gives the taste that is found in these whiskeys.

The Lochs water used carries more or less peat, giving this Islay whiskey these peaty (a little earthy) notes. On the island of Islay one can notice two large production areas, with smoked and peaty whiskeys to the south, sometimes to the point of caricature, and to the north the undeniable marine influence on this island brings iodine and saline notes. Laphroig is Prince Charles' favorite whiskey is an Islay whiskey.
