Moulin à Vent Red Beaujolais Wine

Moulin-à-vent is the oldest appellation of Beaujolais

The Moulin à Vent appellation is located on the most beautiful slopes of Romanèche-Thorins and Chénas. At the top of a hill stands a Windmill which gave its name to the appellation. A Moulin à Vent can be both full-bodied and fine wine, suitable for cellaring for 10 to 15 years. At the start of the 20th century, the wines of what would become Moulin à Vent were compared to fine wines from Burgundy in the Côte d'Or. Moulin-à-Vent wine is a red wine which owes its purple red color to granite and the Gamay grape variety, over time this color will tend towards garnet and ruby notes. The nose of a Moulin à Vent offers notes of ripe fruit such as burlat cherry and floral notes reminiscent of violet. The evolution of this wine will bring this nose to offer notes of dried rose and Iris then, after almost 10 years of aging, animal notes of Musk and vegetal undergrowth take over. In the mouth the tannins are fine but present, the frame is fine but also fleshy, all carried by a minerality due to granite and woody notes depending on the aging.

The AOC Moulin à Vent dates from September 1936
