GLENFARCLAS 17 Years Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whiskey

ref: 12260

Description

The Glenfarclas 17 Year Old Speyside is a Single Malt Whiskey produced in Scotland from the Speyside region. Glenfarclas, which translates Green Grass Valley in Gaelic, is a single malt whiskey whose distillery has been located in Ballindalloch since 1836, in the heart of Speyside and at the foot of the Ben Rinnes mountain range. The Grant family owns this distillery and it is thanks to this family spirit that it is relatively immune to decisions made by financial interest alone. For example, Glenfarclas malts are overwhelmingly aged in sherry casks which cost much more than bourbon casks. This is the price to pay to preserve the characteristics of Glenfarclas whiskeys. Sherry casks bring touches of Christmas Pudding, blond tobacco, raisins and nutmeg to the range. This same family spirit prevailed when the Grant family chose the Mälher Besse family, merchants in Bordeaux and owner of Château Palmer en Margaux, to distribute Glenfarclas in France. For the record, the Grant family were looking for a foothold halfway between Glenlivet and Edinburgh at a time when traveling was time consuming. Their choice then fell on Glenfarclas, and no one regrets it today. Although Glenfarclas labels include the notion of Highland single malt, Glenfarclas is indeed a Speyside distillery making Speyside. This is because historically the region of Speyside was considered an integral part of the Highlands. With almost half the number of distilleries still in operation, Speyside is today a region in its own right in the classification of Scotch whiskeys. The Glenfarclas 17 years Speyside is a Single Malt. To be classified as Single Malt a whiskey follows two important rules. It must be the product of a single distilleriece which explains the Single, then come only from malted cereals, the Malt. This malted cereal must be barley but in rare exceptions it is possible to use rye. Scotland is the biggest single malt producer. These are Scotch Scotch Single Malt Whiskey, but you will find other nations like Japan, India, the Czech Republic or France which also distill tasty Single Malt. The rule is the same, this whiskey must come from a single distillery and the cereal used must be malted barley.

This Glenfarclas 17 years Single Malt is a whiskey from Speyside, a region located by the North Sea, in the heart of the Highlands. It alone produces about 60% of the volumes of single malts in Scotland, it is the region which has the largest number of distilleries still in operation, around fifty. Everything was organized around the River Spey, the main river that gave its name to the Speyside region. Other rivers flow whose name evokes the distilleries that drink there such as the Livet for Glenlivet, the Fiddich for Glenfiddich, the Deveron for Glen Deveron and they flow to the golf course of Moray, which gave the Glen Moray . With some exceptions, where peat-dried malts have been used, Speyside malt whiskeys are not peated. The common characteristic of Speyside whiskeys is a certain roundness and a lot of elegance. The aromas are always balanced between fruity touches and notes of freshly harvested grains, Speyside whiskeys evoke the great classicism of Scottish Malts. For your information know that Speyside Glenlivet was King George IV's favorite whiskey! This whiskey is a Scottish whiskey. The largest number of active malt distilleries is found in Scotland, with more than 97 registered distilleries. Most often and by tradition, distilleries use double distillation, a regulated distillation since the 17th century! It is not without reason that the famous "" scotch whiskey "", recognized for its taste qualities, is part of the Scottish heritage. Five main regions are commonly accepted: the Lowlands to the south and the Highlands to the north are the two largest and certainly best known, Speyside lies in the northeast, Campbeltown and the islands (Orkney, Skye, Mull, Jura and Arran) and finally the island of Islay, where there is certainly the highest density of malt distilleries in the country
