Glenfiddich Speyside Single Malt Whiskey

A large distillery and its Glenfiddich Speyside Whiskey

The great Dufftown distillery is Glenfiddich (the place is also home to Balvenie and Kininvie) its dimensions have become colossal. Consider that 30% of single malts sold worldwide are produced by Glenfidich. This Speyside distillery has its own cooperage which repairs and builds 30 barrels per day. A bottling unit is on site. This gives Glenfiddich single malts the following advantage, it is the same water from the Robbie Dhu spring (slightly peaty, it flows from the neighboring Conval Hills) which is used throughout the manufacturing process including during the reduction. at 40 ° before bottling. Glenfiddich succeeds in the feat of producing pharaonic volumes and preserving high quality. The distillery works with around thirty stills, but every detail is taken care of, each new still is an identical reproduction of the standard still of the distillery (including the bumps ...). and consistency in the quality of these enormous volumes produced, Glenfiddich is the only distillery to assemble the production batches after nine months in order to homogenize the tastes of the alcohols leaving the 30 stills.

World famous Glenfiddich whiskey

Glenfiddich was the first distillery to sell single malt outside of Scotland at a time when whiskey was consumed as blended whiskey. The Grant family was a pioneer in many aspects of what was not yet marketing. Think rather that she had a triangular bottle created in 1956 for the launch of the Grant's blend, this same shape was taken up in 1963 with the launch of Glenfiddich single Malt. The Grant family were the first to sell their bottles in canisters or cardboard packaging. They understood before anyone else the importance of Duty Free shops at airports or transatlantic companies for the worldwide distribution of the Glenfiddich brand. Today this brand is distributed in more than 180 countries.

William Grant, formerly of the Mortlach distillery, created Glenfiddich (the valley of the deer in Gaelic) in 1887, he found to occupy his 9 children well. For the record, he bought the first stills from Cardhu, which was rebuilding his distillery from scratch. The Glenfiddich style is soft malts with herbaceous and hay notes, with fruity notes of pear and raisins.
