Rum from the Pacific Rum from the Indian Ocean Rum from Africa

Rum from the Pacific Rum from the Indian Ocean Rum from Africa

The cultivation of sugar cane in the islands and territories of the Indian and Pacific Oceans is ancestral. A hot and humid climate is ideal for sugar cane. The production of rum was associated with the sugar industry and there are great successes in Madagascar, Reunion and Mauritius which housed up to forty distilleries in the 19th century.

Depending on the distilleries and regions, the rums produced are either agricultural rums made only from freshly squeezed sugar cane juice or traditional rums made from sugar cane molasses. Distilleries may offer rums from both processes. This region of the Rum planet offers a great diversity of white rums or old rums and all have in common an attractive aromatic profile, the result of the use of top quality sugar cane.

The rum producing countries in the Indian Ocean Pacific Ocean Africa zone are:

Madagascar, Mauritius, Reunion Island, Seychelles, Fiji Islands, Hawaii, Tahiti and Uganda.
