Cheap rum in Calais HSE French Rum Martinique Island. Saint-Étienne rum, or HSE meaning (Habitation Saint-Étienne), is an agricultural rum from Martinique. Martinique has an AOC for the production of its rums, and according to the specifications of the AOC, the HSE Rum is exclusively produced from fresh juice fermented sugar cane and then distilled in a traditional column of Creole type in copper. The distillery and its aqueduct are classified as a historic monument because the architectural ensemble represents what was the system of housing and organization of a sugar refinery in Martinique. The gardens are recognized as "Remarkable Gardens" by the Ministry of Culture. It was in 1882 that Amédée Aubéry transformed the sugar factory "La Maugée" at Gros-Morne in Saint-Joseph into an agricultural distillery. At the time, this distillery showed a lot of modernity with wagons carrying sugar cane and a stone canal carrying the water of the river Lézarde for the hydraulic energy and the pure water necessary for a large agricultural rum. The distillery changed hands several times before the Hayot brothers (Rhums Clément & Distillerie du Simon) gave new life to this distillery which only produced 700 to 800 liters of rum. HSE is known for its traditional rums but also for its Rums finishes from the worlds HSE, which pass the end of their aging in casks of whiskey Islay or Highlands, Oloroso or PX sherry, Sauternes or Porto. A real innovation in the world of Martinique rums.
